Peggy, a normally upbeat, smiling, loving soul, had been working a full week with long days. As she left work late one evening, she felt totally wiped out. Feeling weary and hurting all over, she realized that she had to pay extra attention as she walked to her car. Her winter coat was unable to keep her from shivering in the freezing temperatures and she knew she had to be aware of not slipping on any residual ice in the parking lot. Stepping gingerly and carefully was difficult for her because she was in great physical pain. She recalled that as she climbed into her car, she quickly turned on the heat and made herself comfortable enough to make the twenty minute drive home.
Pulling out of the hospital parking lot, Peggy noticed that she had to be especially observant of what is known as black ice, given the cold temperatures and the thin film of ice on the road,. She took her time, using her bright lights to try to see down the road and into the darkness of the night. As she turned onto a long stretch of road, she noticed that she had to go more slowly because she could feel the car slipping a bit on the icy road.
Despite the care Peggy was taking, she suddenly felt her car start to spin around and veer across the road, onto the shoulder, and then into a gulley where it abruptly came to a stop.
She quickly assessed the situation and gave thanks for the fact that she knew she was shaken, but okay. Great! Now what am I going to do? she thought to herself. Peggy was well aware of the power of prayer and quickly offered a prayer to God and her guardian angels, asking for their assistance as soon as possible. In the minutes that followed, her prayers were quickly answered – with some interesting sources of validation.
As she sat there in her car, trying to keep warm and repeating her prayers, a car came by. The driver, seeing her, stopped, came over and offered to help her. The driver introduced himself as Michael, explaining that he was a paramedic who worked at St. Mary's Hospital and that he was on his way home from his evening shift.
While Michael and Peggy were speaking, a truck also pulled up. Out of the truck came two gentlemen who introduced themselves as Stephen and Peter. Immediately, Peggy began to feel that all would go well. How could it not, with three angels appearing, bearing the holy names of Michael, Peter and Stephen?
The three men looked at the placement of the car and came up with a plan. Though they initially had difficulty opening Peggy's car door, they were able to correct the problem and get the car into a good position so that it could be easily moved. Yet, when Peter and Stephen had tried to push Peggy's car out of the gulley, they had little success. The situation significantly improved when the three men tied a rope to the bumper of her car and connected her car to the truck. With this, they were able to pull Peggy's car back onto the road. After profusely thanking Michael, Peter and Stephen, Peggy got back into her car and drove herself home.
Peggy smiles when she tells her story, primarily because she feels she received the proof she needed that cold wintery night that she was not alone, that her angels and God were with her and that she was being lovingly protected and watched over.
Michael is the Archangel of Protection; St. Stephen is considered the protector of the poor, needy and widows and St. Paul is considered to be the first Pope of the Catholic Church. Peggy felt she had been blessed by the best of the best. Christmas had already come to her with the gift of her own miracle.
When things get tough, Peggy remembers her miracle and instantly feels a sense of peace and calm come over her. It has made a difference for her in how she views life and difficult circumstances. Miracles can help us do that!

"Sometimes a scientist – often a very great scientist – realizes
that miracles pervade everything. Einstein was such a person. As he put it,
'There are only two ways to live your life: one is as though nothing is a miracle;
the other is as though everything is a miracle. I choose the latter.'
